Odessa, Texas – The Dustdevils traveled to Odessa to face the UTPB Falcons in a Lone Star Conference matchup Thursday night. Despite holding the Falcons to just 24-65 (36.9%) from the field, the Dustdevils fell 71-54.
The first quarter was back and forth with eight lead changes. The Dustdevils shot 8-14 (57.1%) from the field and 3-6 from three-point range. The TAMIU defense held the Falcons to 8-19 (42.1%) from the field and just 2-7 (28.6%) from beyond the arc. UTPB was 4-4 from the free throw line to finish the quarter with a 22-19 lead.
The second quarter showed strong defensive efforts from both teams. TAMIU shot 3-10 (30%) from the field, while UTPB shot 5-16 (31.3%). The Falcons went into halftime with a 35-28 lead.
In the third quarter, the Dustdevils were 3-12 (25%) from the field and 2-6 (33%) from range. The Falcons were 7-19 (36.8%) from beyond the arc.
The Dustdevils put up 16 points in the fourth quarter, shooting 6-15 (40%) from the field and 3-6 from three-point range. The defense held UTPB to just 4-11 (36.4%) from the field and 1-5 from range. The Falcons capitalized at the free throw line, making eight of 11 attempts.
TAMIU's offense was led by freshman
Trinity Chears who scored 17 points, had four assists and one steal in the game. On the defensive end,
Angelique Morgan and
Josie Igherighe led the team with 15 combined rebounds.
The Dustdevils look to bounce back on December 7
th against Angelo State. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
