Laredo, Texas- The TAMIU Volleyball team took to action on Saturday as they faced off against the visiting Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds. TAMIU was coming off a tough loss against #6 West Texas A&M squad and was looking to bounce back into the win column against the Greyhounds. Heading into the matchup the Dustdevils were 3-2 all-time against the Greyhounds. It was Veteran appreciation night as TAMIU athletics honored all of our beloved service members.
The Greyhounds started off hot as they jumped out quickly to a 5-1 lead over the Dustdevils in the first set. The Dustdevils would soon make changes and tie the set at 6-6. The Dustdevils and Greyhounds would then continue to rally back and forth until the Dustdevils found their rhythm late in the set, scoring six straight points to cap off the set (25-19). The second set would be a repeat of the first as the Greyhounds jumped out again to a quick 5-1 lead. TAMIU would then rally to tie the game at 5-5 and score eight straight points to go up 9-5 against the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds would make a slight push, but it was not enough as the Dustdevils took over the second set to finish (25-19) and went up 2-0 in the match. The third set was all TAMIU as the Dustdevils dominated, outscoring the Greyhounds 25-14.
TAMIU Volleyball would finish the game with 47 kills, five aces, seven blocks, 43 assists and 45 digs on the evening.
Aryana Ledet had a stellar performance for the Dustdevils with 18 kills,
Mia Molina finished with 13 kills, and
Anna Ligart finished with nine kills, to round out the kill leaders for TAMIU.
Caitlyn Cornell led all players with six blocks on the evening for the Dustdevils.
Emma Lade proved once again why she is one of the best setters in TAMIU history as she tallied up 40 assists on the night.
Lixai Perez (15),
Anna Ligart (10), and
Mia Perez (6) led the way in digs for the Dustdevils. Overall, it was an outstanding team effort that allowed the Dustdevils to clean sweep the Greyhounds.
The Dustdevils will be back in action at St. Mary's University on November 13
th at 6:00 PM CDT.
