Dustdevils Fall In Nail Biter Against No. 8 Ranked Buffs

Laredo, Texas- The Texas A&M International Dustdevils took on the number two ranked West Texas A&M Buffs on Tuesday evening. The Dustdevils were coming off a huge win against the Eastern New Mexico Geyhounds. The Buffs were just coming off a loss against the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas. The Dustdevils were looking to keep their momentum as the Buffs were looking to bounce back in the win column on Tuesday. It was an electric environment as the Athletics department hosted a "Ready, Set, Eat." theme game in which free pizza and popcorn was given out to all of the fans in attendance.

The first half was full of back and forth action as the Dustdevils just narrowly kept the lead going into halftime 30-29. The Dustdevils shot 45 percent from the field in the first half while the Buffs shot 38 percent from the field. The Dustdevils out rebounded the Buffs 15-13 in the first half. There were three ties and two lead changes in the first half alone in what was a very competitive and exciting first half. The largest lead in the first half was 10 by the Dustdevils. The second half was much of the same as the pendulum swayed back and forth with the biggest lead for each team being four points. The last minute of the 2nd half was anybody's game as the score was tied 56-56 with one minute remaining. Elijah Bailey hit a crucial layup with 44 seconds left to put the Dustdevils up two. Ahamed Mohammed came back with a layup of his own to tie the game at 58-58. A great defensive effort by both teams would decide overtime as neither team could score in the remaining seconds.

Buckets were traded and with one minute and twenty-three seconds remaining the Dustdevils and Buffs were tied at 63-63. A ferocious dunk by Anthony Ignowski put the Dustdevils on top. However, on the opposite end a foul would send Noah Pagotto to the line with a chance to take the lead. Pagotto hit two free throws to put the Buffs up with two with 31 seconds remaining. The Dustdevils had a couple of opportunities but could not covert. The Buffs escaped with a 66-65 win over the home team.

Anthony Ignowski led the Dustdevils with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Elijah Bailey finished with 15 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds for the Dustdevils. Filip Mamic led in rebounds with 9 and had 5 points on the evening. Isaiah Somers finished with 8 points, 3 blocks, 1 steal and 4 rebounds.

The Dustdevils will be back in action on December 22nd at home at 1:00 PM against the College of Biblical Studies.
