Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils (20-4, 12-4) faced the Arkansas Fort Smith Lions (8-14, 6-10) in Lone Star Conference play Thursday evening in the TAMIU KCB and came away with the victory, 63-56.
UAFS took an early lead in the first quarter, shooting 57.14% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc while the Dustdevils struggled from the field. The quarter ended with a Lion 20-15 advantage.
TAMIU improved their shooting the the second quarter, closing the gap, but UAFS maintained a slim lead at halftime, 36-33.
The third quarter proved pivotal as TAMIU surged ahead, shooting 35.29% and outscoring UAFS 16-11. Heading into the final quarter, the Dustdevils continued their momentum, securing a 63-56 victory.
The Dustdevil starting 5 led TAMIU in scoring.
Ngozi Obineke had a double-double performance, scoring 14 points and securing 14 rebounds.
Malea Jackson also contributing 14 points and added 6 rebounds.
Raiana Brown had 12 points 7 rebounds and
Telisha Brown added 12 points and 4 rebounds.
The Dustdevils return to action at home in the TAMIU KCB on Saturday afternoon when they face Oklahoma Christian at 1pm.
