Laredo, Texas - The Dustdevils (15-10, 11-8) faced the Patriots of UT Tyler (3-21, 2-16) in Lone Star Conference play Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU KCB and earned the 64-56 victory.
The Dustdevils were strong on both sides of the ball and were in control for the majority of the contest.
In the first twenty minutes, the Dustdevils shot 12-24 (50%) from the field and 6-15 (40%) from three-point range. TAMIU held the Patriots to 12-25 (48%) from the field and just 3-7 (42.9%) from beyond the arc. At the halfway point, the Dustdevils led 36-30.
In the second half, TAMIU shot 8-26 (30.8%) from the field and 2-13 from three-point range, and they were nearly perfect at the free throw line making 10-11 (90.9%). The defense held the Patriots to 12-23 (52.2%) and did not allow a three in the second half in Tyler's six attempts.
Esteban Roacho led the Dustdevils with 15 points with
Olaverr Camacho adding 12.
John Achebe and
Jaylen Thompson both added 11 in the contest.
The Dustdevils return to action in Lawton, OK on Thursday, February 22 to face the Cameron Aggies at 7:30 p.m.
