Lawton, Oklahoma – The Dustdevils (16-10, 12-8) started their three-game road trip in Lawton to take on the Cameron Aggies (15-11, 11-9) in a big Lone Star Conference matchup Thursday night.
TAMIU came out on top earning their 12th conference win of the season, setting a new record for LSC wins for the Dustdevils and beating the previous record of 11 set in the 2022-23 season.
The first half saw a lot of back-and-forth action between both teams, but TAMIU went into halftime with a 35-33 lead.
The Dustdevils shot 13-32 (40.6%) from the field and 4-9 (44.4%) from three-point range in the first twenty minutes.
Emaniel Alexandre led the charge with eight points in the half with
Olaverr Camacho just behind him with six. Camacho led TAMIU's defensive charge with six of the team's 15 first half rebounds.
TAMIU held the Aggie offense to 12-30 (40%) from the field and just 2-9 (22.2%) from beyond the arc.
The second half was all Dustdevils to start as they outscored the Aggies 13-2 in the opening minutes. The Dustdevil defense held the Aggies to just 7-27 (25.9%) from the field and 1-10 (10%) from three-point range.
The Dustdevils shot 13-30 (43.3%) from the field and 2-7 (28.6%) from beyond the arc.
TAMIU earned the 71-57 victory behind Camacho, Alexandre and
Jaylen Thompson's 12-point efforts.
Esteban Roacho and
Shannon Strickland also added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Camacho showed why he was the conference's defensive player of the week for the second consecutive week with his 14 rebounds tying the game high.
The Dustdevils continue their road trip Saturday as they head to Wichita Falls to face Midwestern State.
