Dustdevils Complete Series Sweep of Aggies

Lawton, Okla.– Texas A&M International baseball finished the series sweep against Cameron on Sunday, winning game 4 with a resounding final score of 20-10.

TAMIU took an early lead in the 1st inning when Gutierrez scored on a passed ball. However, Cameron responded in the 3rd inning, with Simpson leveling the score at 1-1 on another passed ball.

The Dustdevils roared back in the 4th inning with a four-run surge. Gutierrez's single drove in Stanwick, and Cruz's walk added another run. Prieto being hit by a pitch, coupled with opportunistic passed balls, extended their lead to 5-1. Yet, Cameron's 4th inning saw Grant homer narrowing the gap to 5-2.

The 5th inning witnessed Medina's RBI single increasing TAMIU's lead to 6-2. However, Cameron retaliated with Barnett's two-run homer, making it 6-4. The 6th inning became a battleground, with the Dustdevils amassing nine runs. Standout performances from Cruz, Buentello, and Gonzalez contributed crucial RBIs. However, Cameron fought back with Durst's two-run homer and additional RBIs, bringing the score to 14-10.

In the 7th inning TAMIU extending their lead further, with Cervantes and Buentello hitting doubles, driving in runs. The score rose to 18-10. Medina's two-run homer in the 8th sealed the victory for the Dustdevils, concluding the game with a final score of 20-10.

In a standout performance, Abiam Medina went 4 for 4 with 4 runs, 4 hits, and 3 RBIs, including a crucial two-run homer in the 8th inning.  Ariben Gutierrez showcased stellar offensive skills with 3 at-bats, 5 runs, 3 hits, and 1 RBI. Joseph Cruz made significant contributions in the crucial 6th inning, tallying 4 at-bats, 1 run, 2 hits, and 2 RBIs.

Pitcher Cody Templeton delivered a resilient performance with 6 innings pitched, allowing 11 hits, 10 runs, walking 4, and striking out 8. Mark Chapa, stepping into a relief role, exhibited a solid performance, covering 1.2 innings, surrendering only 1 hit with no runs, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. Chapa's effective relief efforts played a crucial role in maintaining TAMIU's lead and eventual triumph.

The Dustdevils return home to face Texas A&M Kingsville on Wednesday, February 21 at 2pm at Jorge Haynes Field.
