Lawton, Okla. – The Dustdevils became the winningest team in TAMIU women's basketball history on Thursday evening when they defeated Cameron, 72-60 on the road.
In the first quarter of the Dustdevils dominated with a commanding 21-9 lead. TAMIU demonstrated exceptional three-point shooting, connecting on 57.14% of attempts, while Cameron struggled, managing only a 33.33% field goal percentage. The second quarter saw the Dustdevils extend their lead to 40-25 at the half.
In the third quarter, Cameron mounted a comeback effort, outscoring TAMIU 20-13. Shamica Smith's strong inside presence contributed to Cameron's improved performance. Both teams, however, struggled from three-point range in the quarter. The final quarter sealed the victory for the Dustdevils, as they maintained their lead.
Malea Jackson and
Ngozi Obineke were crucial contributors in the fourth quarter, and although Cameron's three-point shooting improved, it wasn't enough to overcome TAMIU's lead.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Dustdevils.
Raiana Brown led the charge with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Samiyah Worrell added 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Malea Jackson and
Ngozi Obineke both contributed 11 points.
Telisha Brown also scored in double figures, with 10 points and 4 assists.
TAMIU's defense proved impactful, recording 9 steals and 1 block throughout the game. The final score stood at TAMIU 72, Cameron 60. With this victory, the Dustdevils improved to 22-6 (14-6 Lone Star), while Cameron fell to 10-16 (8-12 Lone Star).
The victory etched the team into the record books, with no team in TAMIU women's basketball history ever winning 22 games in a single season prior to this year.
The Dustdevils return to action on Saturday, February 24 when they travel to Wichita Falls, TX to face Midwestern State at 1pm.
