Laredo, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball emerged victorious in a convincing win over the UTPB Falcons on Friday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field.
The scoring kicked off in the 1st inning as Flodstrom singled to center field for UTPB, advancing to second on the throw and driving in Haggerty. Hall's groundout to 3rd base added another run, giving the Falcons an early 2-0 lead. However, TAMIU swiftly responded in the bottom of the inning, with
Abiam Medina's homerun driving in two runs and leveling the score at 2-2.
The 2nd inning saw the Dustdevils taking the lead with
Ariben Gutierrez's single to left field, bringing in two runs. An error by the UTPB 3rd baseman allowed another run, establishing a 5-2 lead for the Dustdevils. TAMIU continued their offensive dominance in the 3rd inning, amassing six runs highlighted by
Abiam Medina and
Joseph Cruz's contributions.
TAMIU limited UTPB to only two runs throughout the remainder of the game.
Ariben Gutierrez had three runs, two hits, and three RBIs, including a double.
Abiam Medina delivered a standout performance, contributing significantly with four RBIs, including a homerun.
Joseph Cruz added two hits and two RBIs, while
Isaac Gonzalez,
Joshua Benitez, and
Isaac Stanwick each contributed to the scoring efforts.
Dustdevil pitcher
Isaac Ponce played a pivotal role, securing the win with six innings pitched, allowing only two earned runs while striking out nine. Brewer, Austin, also delivered a solid inning of relief.
TAMIU dominated throughout the game, overpowering UTPB in and sealing their commanding 13-2 victory in just seven innings.
The Dustdevils return to action on Saturday, February 24 for a double header against UTPB beginning at 12pm at Jorge Haynes Field.
