Conroe, Texas – In their first game of day two of the 2024 DII First Pitch Invitational hosted by UT Tyler the Dustdevils (2-1) earned the 3-2 victory over MSU Denver (1-2).
Freshman
Kylie Goad earned her first win as a Dustdevil behind a 7.0 IP, 7H, 5K, 2BB performance. Goad held the Roadrunners scoreless through four innings before MSU Denver got on the board courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Hannah DiFabio in the top of the fifth.
The Dustdevils quickly answered back in their half of the fifth inning.
Kristy Alanis brought in
Victoria Maldonado and
Zaria Brigham on a 2-RBI double giving TAMIU the lead.
The Dustdevil offense added an insurance run in the next inning after Maldonado reached on an error that brought
Alex Hernandez around to score.
The Roadrunners tried to rally in the top half of the seventh with an RBI triple by Lexi Gephart. However, the Dustdevils made a huge play throwing Gephart out at the plate and stopping the tying run from scoring. A popout ended the game as TAMIU came out on top.
Both Brigham and Alanis hit doubles in the contest, with Hernandez and Maldonado reaching via singles.
The Dustdevils are back in action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. for their second game of the day against Wingate.
