Box Score Conroe, Texas - In their second game of day two of the 2024 DII First Pitch Invitational hosted by UT Tyler the Dustdevils (2-2) fell 4-3 to Wingate (2-2).

Erika Cortez made her second start of the year, taking the mound for the Dustdevils against the Bulldogs. After a scoreless first inning, Wingate took the lead in the home half of the second, courtesy of a solo home run and a fielding error.

TAMIU answered back in the third with a three-run home run by Victoria Gonzalez, giving the Dustdevils a 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly before Cortez got out of the inning.

The game was knotted at three heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Bulldogs got the win after a second RBI from Savanna Brooks.

Gonzalez provided the offensive spark in the contest with her three-run home run, Kennedy Griego also recorded two hits in the game.

Cortez finished the game pitching 6.2 innings while allowing just four hits and five walks with two strikeouts.

The Dustdevils play their final two games of the tournament on Sunday where they face Colorado Mesa and Cal Poly Humboldt at 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
