Dustdevil's Top Greyhounds in Game One

Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils earned their first victory of the season as they emerged victorious over the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico University with a final score of 8-5 in Friday's matchup at Jorge Haynes Field.

ENMU took an early lead in the 1st inning when Hamilton homered, securing the initial advantage. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the 2nd inning, capitalizing on an error by TAMIU. However, the Dustdevils responded in the 2nd inning, as Josh Benitez singled to left center, bringing Daniel Quiroz home and narrowing the gap to 2-1.

The game's turning point came in the 5th inning, where TAMIU orchestrated a powerful offensive surge. Isaac Gonzalez's homer tied the score at 2-2, and consecutive hits by Omar Cervantes, Nick Chavez, and Daniel Quiroz propelled them to a 5-2 lead. The 6th inning saw Abiam Medina extending the lead further, capitalizing on an error and bringing the score to 7-2.

ENMU fought back in the 8th inning, with Gideon's homer bringing them within two runs. Hamilton added another homer, reducing the deficit to 7-5. However, TAMIU's Abiam Medina sealed the victory with a homer in the 8th inning, securing an 8-5 win.

Isaac Ponce delivered an impressive pitching display, earning the win for the Dustdevils showcasing a strong performance on the mound with seven innings pitched, allowing only two runs and striking out eight batters.

Abiam Medina stood out offensively, contributing significantly with three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Omar Cervantes showcased his batting prowess with two hits, driving in a crucial run. Isaac Gonzalez and Ariben Gutierrez made notable contributions, each recording two hits and a key RBI. The defensive efforts were commendable as well, with the team executing eight double plays. Overall, TAMIU's standout performances in both pitching and hitting played a pivotal role in their 8-5 victory over ENMU.

Perry took the loss on the mound for ENMU.

With this victory, the Dustdevils improved their record to 1-5, while ENMU moved to 2-3. The Dustdevils and Greyhounds return to action tomorrow for a double header beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Jorge Haynes Field.
