Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils returned home to take on the St. Edward's Hilltoppers on Tuesday in Lone Star conference play and came away with the day one sweep, taking game one by a score of 3-0 and game two 1-0.
Game 1
Carla Arellano got the start on the mound for the Dustdevils and earned her first win of the season in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader. Arellano pitched seven innings and allowed no runs on five hits with one walk.
The Dustdevils started the scoring in the fourth inning as
Sarah Chavez came into score on an error made by the Hilltoppers left fielder.
The offense added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth as
Kennedy Griego brought in
Eva Garcia and
Kristin Maldonado on a 2-RBI triple, putting TAMIU in front 3-0.
The Dustdevils finished game one with six hits, led by Garcia's 2-3 game.
Game 2
Kylie Goad got the nod for game two and kept the Hilltopper bats quiet. Goad earned her fifth win on the season pitching seven innings and allowing five hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Goad retired the side in first, fourth and seventh innings.
The Dustdevils scored their lone run in the bottom of the second inning with a
Kristy Alanis single that brought in
Valerie Loyola.
TAMIU and SEU finish out the series on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at Dustdevil Softball Field.
