Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Dustdevils fell 6-5 against the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian in the first game of a four-game series on Friday, March 15th.
The game kicked off with both teams failing to capitalize on their offensive opportunities. However, the second inning saw TAMIU break the deadlock with an impressive offensive display. Gonzalez's single up the middle brought in Prieto for the game's opening run, followed by Medina's timely hit to right field, driving in Gutierrez and Gonzalez, extending the Dustdevil lead to 3-0. OKC retaliated in the third inning, with Sabala's double to right center scoring Talley, and Laird's single advancing Sabala, narrowing the score to 3-2. The fourth inning saw the Dustdevils extend their lead further, courtesy of Quiroz's powerful home run and Cervantes's single, bringing home Medina, leading 5-2.
From the fifth to the seventh inning, both teams tightened their defense, with the pitchers dominating and maintaining the scoreline. In the eighth inning, OKC staged a late comeback, with Wyatt and Spencer delivering key hits to tie the game at 5-5.
The ninth inning saw both teams unable to break the deadlock, leading to extra innings. In the tenth inning, Behm's single brought in Sanchez, giving OKC the lead and the 6-5 victory.
Medina contributed offensively with 2 RBIs while Cervantes contributed 2 hits and 1 RBI, and
Daniel Quiroz hit a crucial home run. Prieto reached base twice and scored a run. Stanwick scored 2 runs and stole a base.
On the pitching side,
Isaac Ponce had a strong outing, allowing only 2 earned runs over 7.1 innings while striking out 4 batters.
The Dustdevils and Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, March 16, for a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
