Dustdevils Split Doubleheader with Rattlers

Game 1

Laredo, Texas –The Dustdevils were dominant over St. Mary's in game 2 of the four-game series with a 11-7 victory on Saturday, March 23rd.

The action started in the first inning when Concannon of St. Mary's scored the game's opening run on a sacrifice fly by Brooks, briefly putting St. Mary's ahead 1-0. However, TAMIU swiftly responded in their half of the inning, with Stanwick crossing the plate on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

Moving into the second inning, St. Mary's capitalized on an error to extend their lead, with Goins scoring to make it 2-1. They further solidified their advantage as Concannon's double brought in two more runs, pushing the score to 4-1. Nevertheless, the Dustdevils answered back emphatically, capitalizing on defensive miscues to score four runs, led by Coolbaugh's pivotal hit, resulting in a tie game at 4-4 and then taking the lead at 6-4.

The momentum continued for the Dustdevils into the third inning, with Coolbaugh's triple extending their lead to 7-4. They added another run with Stanwick's groundout, increasing their lead to 8-4. In the fourth inning, TAMIU further widened the gap, with Prieto's sacrifice fly and a hit-by-pitch contributing to their lead, now at 10-4.

The fifth inning passed without any scoring from either side, but in the sixth, St. Mary's showed signs of life as Solis hit a solo home run, bringing the score to 11-5 in favor of the Dustdevils. St. Mary's continued their push in the seventh inning, with Goins and Cuevas driving in runs, closing the gap, but ultimately falling to the Dustdevils, 11-7.
