Lubbock, Texas -Â Texas A&M International baseball dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader to #18 Lubbock Christian, 4-2.
TAMIU drew first blood in the second inning with
Nomar Prieto scoring on a single by
Joey Coolbaugh, only to be quickly matched by Lubbock Christian as Maane Van's hit brought home Ryan Ball, tying the game at 1-1.
Lubbock Christian surged ahead in the third inning, scoring three runs highlighted by Gutierrez's RBI single and Ball's RBI double, taking a 4-1 lead.
Despite solid pitching from both teams in the middle innings, with Templeton settling in for the Dustdevils and Markwardt stifling the TAMIU offense, no further runs were scored until the seventh inning.
TAMIU attempted a late rally in the seventh with
Ariben Gutierrez scoring on
Omar Cervantes's RBI single, but Lubbock Christian's Alec Stanfield closed the door on any comeback attempts, securing the 4-2 victory and earning the save for Lubbock Christian.
Ariben Gutierrez went 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and a walk.
Joseph Cruz also made a notable impact, batting 2-for-4 with two singles, consistently getting on base and providing opportunities for his team to score.

In the opening inning, TAMIU swiftly claimed a 1-0 lead as
Isaac Stanwick scored on a fielder's choice putting them ahead early. The momentum carried into the second inning, with the Dustdevil offense thriving.
Ariben Gutierrez's bases-loaded walk and
Isaac Stanwick's RBI single contributed to their lead.
Joseph Cruz's walk and
Abiam Medina's fielder's choice added further runs, extending their advantage to 5-0 by the inning's end.
The Dustdevils exploded offensively in the fourth inning, notching five runs.
Omar Cervantes and
Antonio Buentello contributed RBIs, while
Nomar Prieto's double and
Isaac Gonzalez's single, aided by an error, further widened the gap to a commanding 10-0 lead.
In the seventh inning, TAMIU added one more run, extending their lead to 11-0. Lubbock Christian failed to mount a comeback in their final at-bats, resulting in a shutout victory for the Dustdevils.
Jan Cabrera's stellar performance on the mound earned him the win, pitching a complete game shutout with only 3 hits allowed, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Conversely, Chris Rhoades struggled for Lubbock Christian, lasting 1.2 innings and conceding 5 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks, leading to his loss in the matchup.
Stanwick went 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Buentello went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, along with drawing 2 walks and being hit by a pitch. Prieto contributed significantly with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double, 2 runs scored, and an RBI.
