Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils swept day two of the series against the Arkansas – Forth Smith Lions, taking game one 1-0 and game two 12-7.
Game 1
Christopher Sauceda got the start on the mound for the Dustdevils and was lights out. Sauceda pitched three innings and allowed no runs on no hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Lalo Salinas came in to pitch in relief and picked up right where Sauceda left off. In four innings pitched, Salinas allowed no runs on two hits with one strikeout.
In the game's pitching duel,
Abiam Medina brought in the game's only run with an RBI single in the sixth inning, bringing in
Joshua Benitez to secure the 1-0 win for the Dustdevils.
Game 2
Both offenses came out hot to start game two.
The Lions put up four runs on three hits in the first inning and jumped out to an early lead. However, that lead did not last very long as the Dustdevils put up five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back singles from
Nomar Prieto and
Isaac Gonzalez put two runs on the board for the Dustdevils.
Antonio Buentello brought in two with a double and scored on a passed ball giving the Dustdevils a 5-4 lead.
The Dustdevils extended their lead in the home half of the second with a sacrifice fly from Gonzalez and two more came into score on an error by the Lions' third basemen giving them an 8-4 lead.
The Dustdevils added another run in the third with an RBI from
Joseph Cruz before adding another run in the fourth. TAMIU brought in their final run with a Benitez triple in the sixth.
The Lions rallied in the top of the seventh and were able to bring in three before
Austin Brewer shut them down securing the win for the Dustdevils.
Jan Cabrera earned the win with six innings pitched and allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Brewer came in to close out the game and allowed three runs on one hit with three walks and a strikeout.
The Dustdevils close out the series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
