Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils took on the #5 UT Tyler Patriots in the final home series of the 2024 season with the first two games being played in a doubleheader on Saturday. UT Tyler took both games of the doubleheader winning game one 3-0 and game two 2-0.
Game One
Carla Arellano got the start on the mound for TAMIU against the #5 Patriots in game one. UTT got on the board first in the top of the second with an RBI single that brought in the first run of the game.
Arellano held the Patriots to just one run until the fifth inning when a solo home run and RBI single brought in two more runs for the Patriots which was enough for the 3-0 win.
Arellano pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on nine hits with no walks and no strikeouts.
The TAMIU offense was held to five hits in the contest, led by efforts from
Kennedy Griego,
Kristy Alanis,
Isabella Perez and
Alana Garcia.
Game Two
Kylie Goad was given the ball in game two of Saturday's doubleheader for TAMIU.
The Patriots scored one run in the top of the first courtesy of an RBI double. The Patriots scored their second and final run in the third inning with an RBI single.
Goad pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with one walk, keeping the Dustdevils in it.
The Dustdevil offense was held to just two hits in the game, both of which came from Griego. TAMIU did threaten in the sixth inning when a error, hit-by-pitch and a single loaded the bases with two outs, but did not bring a run across.
The final home series for TAMIU concludes Sunday at 12:15. The day will begin with a senior day presentation that starts approximately 30 minutes before first pitch.
