Game 1
Laredo, TX – TAMIU baseball faced off against the #18 Angelo State Rams in doubleheader action on Saturday with the Dustdevils dropping a pair of hard-fought games, 2-5 and 0-5.
Angelo State emerged victorious over TAMIU in the first game of the doubleheader with a final score of 5-2. Â Angelo St. took an early lead in the 1st inning with Guerrero's solo home run. The Dustdevils answered back in the 2nd inning with
Omar Cervantes' home run, momentarily leveling the playing field. However, the Rams quickly regained control in the 3rd inning, capitalizing on a series of errors by TAMIU to extend their lead with three unearned runs, highlighted by Clark's two-RBI double.
ASU continued to apply pressure in the 6th inning, with Kelton's RBI single further widening the gap. Despite a late attempt to rally in the 6th inning, highlighted by Prieto's sacrifice fly that brought in an unearned run for the Dustdevils, ASU's defense held strong.
Cody Templeton faced the loss for the Dustdevils despite striking out seven batters over 7.0 innings, as defensive errors proved costly. ASU's Pearson secured the win with a solid 5.0 innings pitched, allowed only one earned run and struck out three batters.
Omar Cervantes delivered a home run in the 2nd inning that temporarily leveled the score.
Nomar Prieto also made his presence felt, executing a sacrifice fly in the 6th inning that allowed Cruz to score.
Game 2
In a briskly paced game that showcased Angelo State's ability to capitalize on early opportunities, the Dustdevils were unable to mount a comeback, ultimately falling 5-0.
The Rams established an early lead in the 1st inning, thanks to a combination of walks and strategic hitting, culminating in three runs. This early pressure set the tone for the game, with ASU further extending their lead with a solo home run by Wilhoite in the 2nd inning and an RBI single by Harris in the 4th, bringing the score to 5-0.
TAMIU struggled to find an offensive rhythm against Gutierrez, who pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out three. Despite a few chances, including walks to Stanwick, Isaac, and Benitez, Joshua, the Dustdevils couldn't convert these opportunities into runs.
Omar Cervantes and Buentello, Antonio each managed a hit, but these efforts didn't translate into scoreboard impact, leaving TAMIU scoreless by the game's conclusion.

Jan Cabrera was on the mound for TAMIU and absorbed the loss after giving up five runs over four innings, despite striking out three. His performance was followed by a solid relief appearance by
Steven Grimes who held ASU hitless over the final three innings.
The Dustdevils and Rams return to action for the series finale on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. at Jorge Haynes Field.
