Dustdevils Drop Game 4 to Rams

Laredo, TX – TAMIU baseball faced off against the #18 Angelo State Rams on Sunday and fell 5-7.

Angelo State set a commanding pace in the first inning, scoring four runs. This initial burst was sparked by Guerrero's RBI single, followed by strategic hitting from Kelton and Tredaway, and a daring double steal that saw Kelton swiping home. TAMIU responded in the bottom of the first when Stanwick capitalized on a wild pitch to score.

The Rams continued to build on their lead in the second inning with Clark doubling to bring Guerrero home and Valasek's RBI single in the 3rd inning extended their lead to 6-1.

TAMIU sparked a rally in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by Gutierrez and an RBI single from Stanwick cut the deficit to 6-3. The Dustdevils continued their comeback in the 7th inning, with Coolbaugh walking with bases loaded to score Medina, followed by an RBI single from Gutierrez, bringing the game to a tense 6-5.

ASU found an extra gear in the eighth inning when Guerrero homered to extend the lead to 7-5. Despite their earlier momentum, TAMIU was unable to respond in the final innings ending the game at 7-5 in favor of the Rams.

Lalo Salinas went 5.2 innings on the mound, but was charged with the loss. ASU's Stacy got the win for the Rams.

Stanwick contributing significantly with his bat by scoring one of the early runs for his team and later adding an RBI single. Gutierrez also made his presence felt by executing a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Additionally, Medina provided a spark in TAMIU's offense with a crucial double, setting the stage for potential rallies by placing himself in scoring position. Joey Coolbaugh's discipline at the plate earned him an RBI walk during a critical seventh inning, further contributing to TAMIU's comeback efforts. Lastly, Gutierrez's timely hitting resulted in a sacrifice fly that brought in two runs.

The Dustdevils are off next week, but return to action on Friday, April 19 in Kingsville, TX to face the Javelinas at 6 p.m.
