Dustdevils Sweep Falcons in Doubleheader

Odessa, Texas – The Dustdevils traveled to Odessa, Texas, to take on the UTPB Falcons in a three-game Lone Star Conference series.

Game One
The Dustdevils got the scoring started early as an RBI from Victoria Gonzalez gave TAMIU an early 1-0 lead.

The Falcons answered back with a run of their own with an RBI double, knotting the game at one.

A triple from Kristy Alanis and a single from Kennedy Griego put the Dustdevils back in front 3-1 after the top of the second.

In the home half of the inning, the Falcons got a run back, cutting the Dustdevil lead to one.

A bases loaded walk to Griego in the fourth put TAMIU back in front by two.

The Falcons added three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth, giving UTPB a 6-4 lead after five.

A sac fly from Eva Garcia, a double from Alanis and a sac fly from Gonzalez secured the 7-6 win for TAMIU.

Carla Arellano got the start on the mound for the Dustdevils in game one and pitched 3.2 innings and allowed five runs on ten hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Zakayia Fredrick pitched 3.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts to earn her second win of the season.

Game Two
The Falcons got on the board first in the bottom of the second with an RBI single, giving them a 1-0 lead over the Dustdevils.

Kennedy Griego brought in a run in the top of the fourth tying the game at one.

A six-run sixth gave TAMIU a 7-1 advantage with one inning to go. Eva Garica and Kennedy Griego brought in three runs for TAMIU before Victoria Gonzalez brought in two more with a two-run home run. Damaris Saldivar brought in TAMIU's seventh run with an RBI single.

The Falcons brought two runs across in the home half of the seventh, but TAMIU earned the 7-3 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.

Kylie Goad pitched a complete game for the Dustdevils allowing three runs on nine hits with two walks and a season-high six strikeouts.

The Dustdevils and Falcons conclude their series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
