San Antonio, Texas- The Texas A&M International Volleyball team has faced nothing but adversity and challenging opponents the first seven games of their season this far and today was no different. After suffering a loss against East Central University on Friday, the Dustdevils would be playing a team that just beat East Central 3-1.
To decide the winner of this game, however, would take a full five sets of volleyball action inside the Bill Greehey Arena. The Dustdevils were looking to even the score against Anderson after losing to them in 2022. That was the case today as the Dustdevils prevailed against the Trojans in five sets (20-25, 25-14,25-23,21-25,15-13). The Dustdevils finished the match with 62 kills, six aces, 10 blocks, 59 assists and 52 digs.
The Dustdevils were led by
Anna Ligart who had 19 kills and five blocks.
Sierra Long had 17 kills, two service aces and one assist. Derin Cetin led the way with a match high seven blocks for the Dustdevils. Star setter
Emma Lade had two aces herself along with a match high of 50 assists for the Dustdevils. To continue their impressive showing,
Lixai Perez had a match high of 19 digs and six assists to follow.
Aryana Ledet had 14 kills and three blocks for the Dustdevils.
Sandra Galas had eight digs for the Dustdevils respectively.
Coach Tammie Jimenez had the following words about her team,
"We emphasized improving our serve-pass game, having a stronger transition game, and remaining resilient throughout the entire match. We committed to the game plan from the first whistle to the last, and we saw the results we wanted. It was a fun win!"
The Dustdevils Volleyball team will be back in action this Thursday against Texas Permian Basin at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building at 6:00 PM.
