Lady Dustdevils Volleyball fall on Day One of Rattler Invite

San Antonio, Texas- It was a Lone Star Conference showdown as the Dustdevils Volleyball team took on a tough St. Mary's team on Friday. The Dustdevils entered the game 1-3 after playing three nationally ranked opponents while the St. Mary's Rattlers entered the game 3-1 on the season. There was 136 individuals in attendance to watch these two teams battle it out on the court.

The Bill Greehey Arena was on the edge of the seats as St. Mary's took the lead in the first set just to have the TAMIU Dustdevils rally back and take set one away from the home team. Unfortunately after the first set, it was all Rattlers as they won in four sets (25-20)-(18-25)-(16-25)-(18-25).
The kill leaders for the Dustdevils were Mia Molina (18), Anna Ligart (14) and Sierra Long (10). The outstanding Lone Star Conference star Emma Lade finished with 42 assists and 2 blocks on the evening. Lixai Perez finished with (16) digs and one service ace. Marianna Gamboa had 12 digs, while Sierra long also contributed with 11 digs respectively.

Rattlers finished with leading in kills 56-53 against TAMIU. Overall the Rattlers had a .278% overall hitting percentage to TAMIU's .229%.
 
The next match of the day was against East Central. Tamiu dropped sets one and two but was able to bounce back on set three. However, ultimately East Central proved to be too much as they took the match in four sets (21-25, 22-25,25-20,18-25). Sierra Long led the Dustdevils with 14 kills and seven digs. Lixai Perez had 30 digs and two service aces. East Central marked a hitting percentage of 2.18 on the match while TAMIU finished with .140.
 
The Lady Dustdevils will be back in action tomorrow against Anderson University at 12:30 PM.
