LAREDO, TX – Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) announced the promotion of
Ruben Rodriguez to Head Baseball Coach. Rodriguez, who served as the Assistant Coach under Philip Middleton from 2022-24, takes over the role as the Dustdevils look to build upon their recent successes.
"I am excited to be the next baseball coach at Texas A&M International University," said Rodriguez. "I want to thank TAMIU President Dr. Pablo Arenaz, the Members of the Executive Council, and Athletic Director Griz Zimmermann along with the members of the interview committee for this incredible opportunity."
Reflecting on the transition, Rodriguez noted, "A month ago, we were looking to build on the accomplishments of our 2024 season, when I got the call that Coach Middleton had taken another job. I quickly looked forward to the opportunity to lead this baseball program. My dream of leading a program at the college level has now come to fruition here at TAMIU."
Enthusiastically, Rodriguez has been part of an academic rise within the TAMIU baseball program. The Dustdevils closed out the 2024 season earning their fourth ABCA Team Academic Excellence award in as many years. Rodriguez will continue to prioritize both on-field success and academic excellence.
Looking ahead, Rodriguez is committed to achieving greatness, "I look forward to leading and reaching the highest level of achievement as the new head baseball coach. Our goal is to take our 38 young men to conference, regional, and national championships. We will pride this Dustdevils baseball program on hard work while involving ourselves in the community of Laredo."
Director of Athletics Griz Zimmermann expressed his confidence in Rodriguez's leadership, "
Ruben Rodriguez has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to our baseball program. We are confident that under his guidance, our baseball team will continue to excel and reach new heights. We look forward to an exciting new chapter in our program's history with Ruben at the helm."
