Laredo, Texas – Texas A&M International took on the No. 2 Texas Woman's Pioneers at home in Lone Star Conference play on Saturday. Despite a fourth quarter surge, the Dustdevils were unable to get past the Pioneers and fell 68-48.
In the first quarter, TAMIU shot 25% (4-16) from the field and 16.7% (1-6) from three-point range.
The Dustdevils improved to 40% (4-10) from the field and went 50% (1-2) from beyond the arc. TAMIU trailed 30-22 going into halftime.
The Dustdevils shot 33% (4-12) from the field in the third quarter. In the final 10 minutes, TAMIU had their best offensive showing of the game. The Dustdevils hit hitting 6-10 (60%) from the floor and 1-3 (33%) from three-point range.
Trinity Chears led the team with 14 points and 6-9 free throws, while
Josie Igherighe added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Alyssia Thorne contributed 8 points, and
Mia Monroe added 6 points off the bench.
The Dustdevils outrebounded Texas Woman's 31-26. Texas A&M International also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 11 points off offensive rebounds.
