Alpine, Texas – Texas A&M International took on Sul Ross State Thursday night in Lone Star Conference play. The Dustdevils scored at least 20 points every quarter, propelling them to a 84-62 victory over the Lobos.
The Dustdevils jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, shooting 57.1% (8-14) from the field, and 40% (2-5) from beyond the arc. They were also efficient from the free-throw line, hitting 83.3% (5-6).
In the second quarter, TAMIU maintained their offensive rhythm with 50% (7-14) shooting, including 42.9% (3-7) from three-point range. They were perfect from the line, hitting all three of their free-throw attempts. The Dustdevil defense held the Lobos to just 37.5% (6-16) from the field.
Coming out of halftime, TAMIU shot 44.4% (8-18) from the field and 33.3% (2-6) from three. The defense again held the Lobo offense to just 37.5% from the field and 25% (1-4) from beyond the arc.
TAMIU finished with their best shooting performance in the final quarter. The Dustdevils shot 53.3% (8-15) from the field, including 60% (3-5) from three. Their free-throw shooting remained perfect, making both attempts.
Mia Monroe led the way offensively with 23 points, shooting 7-9 from three-point range.
Josie Igherighe also contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while
Angelique Morgan added 12 points and 3 assists.
The Dustdevils head to Silver City, New Mexico, on Saturday to face the Western New Mexico Mustangs. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
