Silvery City, NM- The Texas A&M International Dustdevils went to take on the Western New Mexico University Mustangs Saturday evening. The Dustdevils and the Mustangs were an even 3-3 dating back to 2017 as Lone Star Conference opponents. The Dustdevils were looking to jump back into the win column.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 23-14 lead against TAMIU with ten minutes left to play in the first half. The Dustdevils were able to battle back and forth but went into the locking room trailing 31-39 at halftime. The Mustangs came out of the gate and pushed the lead to double digits in the second half, however, the Dustdevils would prevail 65-62 against the Mustangs.

The Dustdevils shot 21-58 from the field, 3-17 from three and were 20-27 from the free throw line. Coming down to the wire, the Dustdevils clutch free throw performance was able to help seal the deal for TAMIU. Anthony Ignowski and Omarion Shackelford helped lead the way for the Dustdevils with 12 points each. Esteban Roacho was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds and 10 points. The Dustdevils continued to show their depth as there were 31 bench points of the teams 65 total points in the game. There was a total of five lead changes and nine ties as the Dustdevils pulled out the victory in Silver City.

The win brings the Dustdevils to 10-12 overall and 5-8 in the Lone Star conference. Currently, the Dustdevils sit fourth in the East Division of the LSC which will keep them as LSC tournament contenders. The Dustdevils will return to action against St. Mary's at home on January 30^th at 7:30 PM CDT. Earlier this year the Dustdevils fell to the Rattlers 62-72.
