Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils opened the 2025 season against the Cameron Aggies Friday afternoon. The offense came alive with 11 hits behind a strong performance from starting pitcher
Jose Duran. TAMIU won the game by a score of 12-5.
Duran got the nod on the mound for TAMIU. Duran pitched four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, walking only three of the 20 batters he faced.
The offense got going early as
Abiam Medina, who reached on a double, came in to score on an
Omar Cervantes triple in the first inning. Medina scored again in the third inning, this time off a single by
Nomar Prieto, putting the Dustdevils up 2-0.
Medina again extended the Dustdevils' lead with a solo homerun in the fourth inning.
The Aggies cut into the TAMIU lead as two runs came in to score in the top of the fifth.
The TAMIU offense exploded in the bottom half of the seventh inning, adding five runs to their total.
Joseph Rodriguez and
Ciro Benavides both doubled and scored in the inning alongside Prieto who singled and scored.
Issac Stanwick and Cervantes both scored after reaching with walks, bringing the Dustdevil lead to 8-2.
The Aggies put two runs up in the top of the eighth, but the Dustdevils answered with four more runs of their own.
Alex Lugo brought in a run with a pinch-hit RBI double before
Joseph Cruz hit a bases clearing double adding three more runs for the Dustdevils.
The Aggies brought in one more run in the top of the ninth, but that was it as the game ended in a 12-5 victory for the Dustdevils.
"Really proud of how the players executed today. They did their job. Now, it's back to work tomorrow," said head coach
Ruben Rodriguez.
The Dustdevils face the Aggies Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. before concluding the series on Sunday.
