Canyon, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer battled West Texas A&M to a hard-fought 0-0 draw Wednesday afternoon at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park.
The Dustdevils' defense held strong, anchored by goalkeeper
Emmanuel Esquivel, who recorded four saves to secure his second shutout of the season. TAMIU limited the Buffs to just nine total shots, four of which were on target.
On the offensive end, the Dustdevils pushed forward with 12 shots, including five on goal.
Tiziano Klamler led the attack with a team-high five shots, forcing the WTAMU keeper into multiple saves. TAMIU also created opportunities on set pieces, earning six corner kicks in the match compared to West Texas A&M's three.
Despite controlling much of the second half and outshooting the Buffs 10-4 after halftime, TAMIU was unable to find the back of the net, settling for the draw in their Lone Star Conference opener.
TAMIU continues the season at home on Oct. 4 against Midwestern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
