Alpine, Texas – Texas A&M International women's soccer earned a decisive 3-0 shutout victory over Sul Ross State on Saturday morning at Lobo Field in Alpine, Texas.
The Dustdevils came out strong, striking early in the 11th minute when
Julissa Gonzalez found the back of the net off an assist from
Rosa Caird. Just under 20 minutes later,
Natasha Goodwin extended the lead to 2-0, again assisted by Caird.
In the second half, Caird capped off her standout performance with a goal of her own in the 52nd minute, this time assisted by Gonzalez, giving both players a goal and an assist in the win.
TAMIU controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Sul Ross 19-4 and placing 14 shots on goal. The Dustdevil defense limited the Lobos to just one shot on target, while goalkeeper
Maria Melendez recorded the clean sheet in a full 90 minutes of action.
With the victory, TAMIU improves to 3-8-3 overall and 2-7-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
