Lubbock, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer battled through adversity Wednesday night but came up short in a 1-0 loss to Lubbock Christian at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
Despite playing nearly an hour down a man following a first-half red card, the Dustdevils held their own defensively. Goalkeeper
Ioannis Koupepides was outstanding, tallying 10 saves—six of them in the first half—to keep TAMIU within striking distance throughout.
The Chaparrals scored the lone goal in the 44th minute off a finish from Jack Brassey, assisted by Manu Nunez. The Dustdevils created chances of their own, firing 12 total shots, including six on goal, with
Felipe Garcia and
Jonathan Cervantes leading the attack.
Kai Louviere and
Luca Foschi also contributed key efforts on both ends, while TAMIU's back line held firm under sustained pressure, limiting LCU to just one goal despite 19 total shots.
With the result, TAMIU moves to 2-3-5 overall and 0-2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Dustdevils return home as they host Sul Ross State on Saturday at 11 a.m., celebrating Senior Day at Dustdevil Soccer Field.
