Laredo, Texas – The TAMIU Dustdevils took on the TAMUK Javelinas Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference matchup. A big sixth inning for the Javelinas propelled them to a 15-3 victory.
TAMUK got out to a hot start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.
The Dustdevils got a run back in the home half of the first, as
Alan Vielma brought in
Alex Lugo on a sacrifice fly, making the score 4-1.
The Javelinas scored two more runs in the top of the third inning before
JC Zepeda brought in
Edsael Torres in the bottom of the inning, making the score 6-2 in favor of the Javelinas.
TAMUK added one run in the fifth and six runs in the sixth inning, putting them in front of TAMIU 13-2. The Javelinas added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Dustdevils scored again in the bottom of the seventh as
Eddie Saenz brought in a run with an RBI single, but that would do it for TAMIU.
AJ Sanchez for the start for the Dustdevils and pitched 2.0 innings, allowing six runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. TAMIU used five pitchers in relief.
Saenz led the Dustdevils, going 3-4 on the day with an RBI. Torres and Lugo both contributed two hits as well.
The Dustdevils take on #17 UT Tyler at home Feb. 14-16. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
