Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils took on the #17 UT Tyler Patriots at home Friday afternoon. The Patriots scored four runs in the ninth to propel them to a 7-1 victory over TAMIU.

Mario Garcia started the game on the mound for the Dustdevils and pitched 6.2 innings. Garcia allowed two runs on five hits with five walks and eight strikeouts. Austin Brewer pitched one inning in relief, allowing one run Billy Winans closed out the game for TAMIU, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing four runs on three hits.

The Patriots scored first in the top of the second inning, putting UT Tyler up, 1-0. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning as UT Tyler tacked on another run.

Omar Cervantes brought in Abiam Medina in the bottom of the sixth, as the Dustdevils cut into the Patriots lead, setting the score at 2-1.

The Patriots added one run in the eight and four more in the ninth inning, earning the 7-1 victory in game one.

The series continues Saturday as the Patriots and Dustdevils play a doubleheader. Saturday's festivities include Youth Day and player autographs at the conclusion of the second game. Game one begins at 12:00 p.m.
