Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils dropped both games in Saturday's doubleheader against the Patriots. UT Tyler took game one, 9-1, and game two, 9-4.
Game One
The Patriots scored first, scoring three runs in the first and two in the second, to take an early 5-0 lead.
The Dustdevils cut into the Patriots' lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as a sacrifice fly from
Joseph Cruz made the score 5-1.
The Patriots added four more runs in the sixth inning, bringing the game to 9-1.
Lalo Salinas started the game for the Dustdevils and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing nine runs on 14 hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Alex Lugo led the Dustdevils offensively, going 3-3 in the game.
Joseph Rodriguez also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4.
Game Two
The Patriots tallied eight runs in the first three innings to jump out to an 8-0 lead.
TAMIU cut into the eight-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning as
Omar Cervantes,
David Benitez and
Joseph Rodriguez all brought in a run, bringing the game to 8-3.
UT Tyler added a run in the top of the seventh before the Dustdevils brought in their fourth and final run in the bottom of the inning with a bases loaded walk to
Alan Vielma.
The Patriots and Dustdevils conclude the series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
