Alpine, Texas – TAMIU traveled to Alpine Friday to start a four-game series against Sul Ross State. The Lobos seemed down and out but came back in the bottom of the ninth to take game one in walk-off fashion.
Sul Ross tallied a run in each of the first two innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Nomar Prieto,
Joseph Rodriguez and
Alex Lugo all came into score for the Dustdevils in the top of the third inning as TAMIU took the lead, 3-2.
The Lobos added one run in the bottom of the third to tie the game before TAMIU reclaimed the lead with two runs the fifth.
The score remained 5-3 in favor of TAMIU until the bottom of the ninth where Sul Ross State walked if off with three runs to earn the 6-5 victory.\
Mario Garcia started the game for TAMIU and pitched six innings. He allowed three runs on five hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
The Lobos and Dustdevils are back in action Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
