Late Rally Pushes Dustdevils Past Eagles

Laredo, Texas – The TAMIU Dustdevils took on the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in a Lone Star Conference matchup Friday afternoon. A big eighth inning rally led the Dustdevils to a 13-12 walk-off victory.

The game remained scoreless through two innings until Oklahoma Christian plated four runs in the top of the third inning.

Alex Lugo cut the Eagles' lead in half in the bottom of the third, with a two-run triple.

Oklahoma Christian added two more runs in the top of the fourth before Edsael Torres, Nomar Prieto and Issac Stanwick brought in three runs for TAMIU, bringing the score to 6-5 in favor of the Eagles.

The Eagles added three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, bringing the lead to 11-5 going into the bottoms of the seventh.

Eddie Saenz cut into the OC lead with a two-run home run in the seventh.

Oklahoma Christian plated its twelfth and final run in the top of the eighth.

Lugo scored on a wild pitch before Omar Cervantes hit a three-run home run to bring the Dustdevils within one run. Ciro Benavides reached on an error that scored Prieto to tie the game heading into the ninth inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Dustdevils quickly loaded the bases with a single, an Eagles error and a walk. With the bases loaded and one out, Haziel Cruz came in from third to score on a balk from the Oklahoma Christian pitcher.

Mario Garcia started the game on the mound for TAMIU and pitched 3.1 innings. Garcia allowed six runs on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
The Dustdevils used six pitchers in relief, with Danny Dial earning the win.

TAMIU and Oklahoma Christian continue the series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
