Dustdevils Sweep Falcons in Doubleheader

Odessa, Texas – The Dustdevils looked to bounce back from Friday's loss against the Falcons in Saturday's doubleheader. Strong pitching paired with a dominant offense led TAMIU to sweep the day, winning both games 7-3 and 10-5.

Game 1
The Dustdevils got out to an early 2-0 lead as Abiam Medina and Issac Stanwick brought in a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

The Falcons cut into TAMIU's lead with one run of their own in the home half of the first inning. UTPB tied the game in the fourth inning, knotting the game at two.

Joseph Rodriguez hit a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, putting the Dustdevils back in front 4-2.

UTPB brought in another run in the bottom of the sixth, cutting into the Dustdevil lead.

Omar Cervantes brought in another run for TAMIU with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning before Joseph Cruz brought in two more runs with an RBI double, extending TAMIU's lead to 7-3.

Lalo Salinas got the start for the Dustdevils and went the distance. Salinas pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Game 2
TAMIU kept its foot on the gas to begin game two as they brought in five runs in the first inning.

Rodriguez started the inning with a solo home run before Cervantes brought in another run with an RBI single. Nomar Prieto brought in two more runs with an RBI single before Ciro Benavides capped off the big inning with an RBI of his own as the Dustdevils jumped out to an early 5-0 lead.

The Dustdevils added two more runs in the third courtesy of Prieto.

UTPB brought in one run in the third and two more in the fifth, bringing the score to 7-3 in favor of the Dustdevils.

Benavides brought in another run in the top of the sixth inning before the Falcons answered with two runs in the home half of the inning bringing the game to 8-5.

Cruz and Joshua Benitez brought in the final two runs for the Dustdevils as they closed out game two with a 10-5 victory.

Jose Duran got the start and the win for the Dustdevils, pitching five innings. Duran allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Sota Inden earned the save, pitching 0.2 innings and allowing no runs and no hits.

The Dustdevils and Falcons close out the series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
