Odessa, Texas – TAMIU and UTPB concluded their four-game series in Odessa, Texas, on Sunday. In a game where both offenses came out swinging, the Falcons held off the Dustdevils' ninth inning rally to win the series finale 16-12.
Joseph Rodriguez brought in the first run of the game for TAMIU as he came in to score on an error by the Falcons' second baseman.
Omar Cervantes brought in a second run for the Dustdevils as they took an early 2-0 lead.
UTPB answered back in the bottom of the first with three runs, putting the Falcons in front 3-2.
Joseph Cruz brought in a run to tie the game in the top of the third, but UTPB scored another run in the home half of the inning to reclaim the lead.
Nomar Prieto tied the game again for TAMIU, but two more runs for UTPB set the score at 6-4.
Cruz brought in two more runs for the Dustdevils in the fifth with a 2-run home run before
Issac Stanwick scored on another Falcons' miscue giving TAMIU a 7-6 lead.
The Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the fifth before jumping out to a 12-7 lead courtesy of a five-run sixth inning.
Prieto cut into the Falcon lead with an RBI in the top of the seventh inning, but UTPB answered back scoring four more in the home half of the inning.
Cruz tallied his fourth RBI of the day in the top of the eighth with an RBI double.
The Dustdevils rallied in the ninth, bringing in three runs, but came up just short of the comeback.
TAMIU returns home Wednesday, Feb. 12 for a midweek game against Texas A&M-Kingsville, before taking on the #16 UT Tyler Patriots Feb. 14-16.
