Medina and Dial lead Dustdevils Past Rattlers in Game Four

San Antonio, Texas – The Dustdevils and Rattlers concluded their series Sunday afternoon. The Dustdevil bats combined for 10 runs on 17 hits to avoid the sweep and finish the weekend with a win.

TAMIU struck first in the top of the first as Abiam Medina drove in Alex Lugo with an RBI single to center field. Medina later came into score on a throwing error from the St. Mary's shortstop to put the Dustdevils ahead 2-0.

The Rattlers came back and scored four runs in the bottom of the second as StMU took the lead, 4-2.

Nomar Prieto singled in the top of the third to bring in Lugo and later scored on an error by the Rattlers' third baseman to knot the game at four.

Medina brought in two more runs in the top of the fourth as the Dustdevils reclaimed the lead 6-4.

Medina struck yet again in the top of the eighth with his fourth and fifth RBI of the game with a two-run home run as TAMIU extended its lead 8-4. David Benitez plated the final two runs for the Dustdevils with a double to right field.

The Rattlers attempted a last inning rally and brought in five runs, but TAMIU stopped StMU short and earned the 10-9 victory.

Danny Dial earned the win for TAMIU pitching 5.2 innings in relief and allowing no runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Mark Chapa earned the save.

Medina powered the TAMIU offense, hitting 4-5 on the day with five RBI. Five other Dustdevils also recorded multi-hit games.

The Dustdevils return home March 14-16 for a four-game series against Lubbock Christian. Game one begins Friday at 2:00 p.m.
