Laredo, Texas – In Saturday's doubleheader against the Chaps, the TAMIU Dustdevils fell in both games by final scores of 7-0 and 8-5.
In game one, the Dustdevil offense could not find an answer for LCU's Ryan Markwardt. TAMIU tallied two hits in the game, both coming off the bat of
Joseph Cruz.
Lalo Salinas started the game on the mound for TAMIU and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
AJ Sanchez and
Billy Winans both pitched in relief.
In game two, the Chaps scored once in the first and twice in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. In the home half of the second, TAMIU cut into LCU's lead with an RBI single from
David Benitez to put the Dustdevils on the board.
Lubbock Christian scored twice in the top of the third, extending its lead to 5-1.
Abiam Medina doubled to bring in
Alex Lugo in the third to tally another run for TAMIU.
Omar Cervantes homered before
Ciro Benavides brought in a run with an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at five.
The Chaps scored three runs in the sixth to bring the score to 8-5.
Mario Garcia started the game for TAMIU and pitched 2.2 innings while allowing five runs on two hits with seven walks and two strikeouts.
Michael Ramos and
Sota Inden pitched in relief.
The series concludes tomorrow with TAMIU looking to even the series at two games a piece. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
