Dustdevils Drop Doubleheader Against Rattlers

San Antonio, Texas – The Dustdevils and Rattlers continued their Lone Star Conference series with doubleheader action Saturday afternoon. The Rattlers took game one by a score of 11-3. Game two belonged to St. Mary's as the Rattlers earned the 18-5 victory.

Game One
The Dustdevils got on the board early as Joseph Cruz plated a run for TAMIU with an RBI single in the top of the first inning.

Lalo Salinas retired the side in the home half of the first inning with two groundouts and a flyout.

The Rattlers tallied back-to-back four run innings in the second and third innings to jump out to an 8-1 lead. StMU added two more runs in the fourth, extending its lead to 10-1.

Cruz and Omar Cervantes came scored for TAMIU in the top of the sixth as the Rattlers' left fielder could not handle the ball off of David Benitez's bat.

StMU tallied its 11th and final run of the game courtesy of a solo home run, finalizing the score at 11-3.

Salinas pitched four innings for the Dustdevils and allowed 10 runs, only three earned, on 11 hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Billy Winans pitched the final innings for TAMIU and allowed one run on five hits with one strikeout.

Game Two
The Rattlers scored 14 unanswered runs in the first five innings and jumped out to a big lead.

Alan Vielma put the Dustdevils on the board with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning.

StMU scored its final four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning bringing the run total to 18.

Joseph Cruz reached on an error in the top of the seventh that brought in the Dustdevils' fifth and sixth runs as the game ended in favor of the Rattlers 18-5.

Austin Brewer started the game on the mound for TAMIU and pitched 1.1 innings.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
