Austin, Texas – The Dustdevils and Hilltoppers continued their Lone Star Conference series with doubleheader action Saturday afternoon. The Hilltoppers swept the doubleheader with a 16-15 win in game one and a 9-2 victory in game two.
Game 1
TAMIU wasted no time getting on the board with an RBI double from
Abiam Medina in the top of the first, but St. Edward's quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half to take an early lead. The Dustdevils answered right back in the second as
Alan Vielma worked a bases-loaded walk and
Alex Lugo brought in the tying run to even the score at 3-3.
The offense exploded for TAMIU in the top of the third.
Haziel Cruz knocked an RBI single, followed by a grand slam from
Joseph Cruz to blow the game open. An error by the Hilltoppers' left fielder brought in Medina, and
Omar Cervantes later scored on a wild pitch to cap off an eight-run inning, giving the Dustdevils an 11-3 advantage.
However, St. Edward's came back in the bottom of the third, plating seven runs to trim the deficit to just one.
Haziel Cruz kept the momentum going for TAMIU with a solo homer in the fourth, and Cervantes added a two-RBI single to stretch the lead to 14-10. Cruz would later score on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 15-11.
The Hilltoppers scored twice in the bottom of the fifth before mounting a final rally in the seventh, scoring three runs in the frame to walk it off.
Mario Garcia got the start for TAMIU, going 2.2 innings and allowing 10 runs on six hits with six walks and five strikeouts.

Dannel Marrero each contributed in relief.
Game 2
The Hilltoppers jumped ahead early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking an early 2-0 lead.
Abiam Medina delivered an RBI single in the third to get TAMIU on the board, and
Alex Lugo tied things up in the fifth with a run-scoring double, making it 2-2.
Momentum quickly shifted back to St. Edward's in the bottom of the fifth as they scored five runs to take a commanding lead. They added two more in the sixth, finalizing the 9-2 win.
Jose Duran got the start on the mound for the Dustdevils, working 4.0 innings and giving up four runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
