Portales, New Mexico – The Dustdevils traveled to New Mexico to face the ENMU Greyhounds in the last Lone Star Conference series of the season. A lightning delay put a pause in game two, but the Dustdevils swept the day to take an early 2-0 series lead.
Game 1
Game one remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Greyhounds scored twice on an RBI double, taking a 2-0 lead.
ENMU extended its lead to five, scoring three runs in the home half of the fourth.
The game remained 5-0 in favor of the Greyhounds until the top of the seventh. Down to the final three outs, TAMIU had one final push to get something going.
Issac Stanwick led off the inning reaching via a hit by pitch. Stanwick scored on an RBI double from
Haziel Cruz, giving the Dustdevils its first run of the game.
JC Zepeda entered the game to pinch hit for
Nomar Prieto and also reached via a hit by pitch.
The Greyhounds made a pitching change that led to two outs for the Dustdevils.
Abiam Medina kept the rally going with a 2-RBI single to make it a 5-3 game.
Omar Cervantes singled, and
Eddie Saenz reached via another hit by pitch, which loaded the bases for TAMIU.
Ciro Benavides singled which brought in two more runs for TAMIU, tying the game at five.
The Dustdevils' five-run seventh pushed the game to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Medina came through again with an RBI single to bring in
Joseph Cruz.
Danny Dial retired the Greyhounds with a fly out and a double play to secure the game one victory for TAMIU.
Omar Rodriguez started the game for the Dustdevils and pitched six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Dial pitched the final two innings for TAMIU, allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout.
Game 2
The Dustdevils kept the momentum rolling to begin game two as they took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, courtesy of an RBI single from
Omar Cervantes.
TAMIU extended its lead in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly from
Joseph Cruz and an RBI single from
Alex Lugo.
The Dustdevils struck once again in the third, with
Eddie Saenz scoring on a passed ball, giving TAMIU a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
The Greyhounds cut into the Dustdevil lead in the home half of the third, scoring twice.
ENMU scored three times in the fifth, to take a 5-4 lead.
Medina tied the game at five for the Dustdevils with an RBI triple before scoring on a failed pickoff attempt to reclaim the lead for TAMIU. Cervantes later scored on a wild pitch as the Dustdevils took a 7-5 lead.
AJ Sanchez started the game for TAMIU, pitching four innings and allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Billy Winans pitched in relief.
Jose Duran earned the win out of the bullpen pitching two innings and allowing no runs on two hits and two strikeouts.
Michael Ramos earned the save, pitching one inning and allowing just one hit and recording two strikeouts.
