Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils and Javelinas met for the third time this season to begin a four-game series in Lone Star Conference play. The Dustdevils out-hit the Javelinas 15-10 but came up one run short in the 9-8 loss in game one.
The Javelinas jumped out the gates early, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Joseph Cruz brought in two runs for TAMIU in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single to right field, bringing the score to 5-2.
The Javelinas tallied another run in the top of the third inning before
Eddie Saenz hit a solo home run keeping TAMIU within three runs.
TAMUK scored once in the fifth before
Ciro Benavides and
Issac Stanwick each brought in another run for the Dustdevils, bringing the score to 7-5 in favor of TAMUK.
A run in both the sixth and seventh innings for TAMUK brought the Javelinas run total to nine.
Saenz scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth before
Omar Cervantes brought the Dustdevils within one with a 2-run blast in the bottom of the ninth, but the game ended with a final score of 9-8.
The series continues Saturday with doubleheader action at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
