Laredo, Texas – The Dustdevils fell in the series finale against the TAMUK Javelinas by a score of 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.
The Javelinas scored first capitalizing on a bases loaded walk in the top of the first inning and again in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to take an early 2-0 lead.
Ciro Benavides scored on an error in the bottom of the second to get the Dustdevils on the board.
TAMUK scored two runs in the third and one more in the sixth to bring the score to 5-1 in favor of the Javelinas.
Issac Stanwick brought in two runs for the Dustdevils with a double in the bottom of the sixth to bring TAMIU within two runs.
Joshua Benitez reached on a fielder's choice that scored Benavides before a sacrifice fly from
Alan Vielma tied the game at five.
The Javelinas scored its sixth and final run on an error by the TAMIU defense.
The Dustdevil offense was led by Stanwick and
Alex Lugo who both had two hits on the day.
Jose Duran got the start for TAMIU with
Billy Winans,
Omar Rodriguez and
Sota Inden all pitching in relief. The Dustdevil arms allowed six runs on nine hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Dustdevils make the trip to Austin, Texas, April 11-13
th for a four-game series against St. Edward's.
