Canyon, Texas – The Dustdevils (2-2) met Western Colorado and CSU Pueblo in Day 2 of the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. TAMIU opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of WCU and finished the day in a split, falling 3-1 to CSU Pueblo.
Match One vs. WCU
Much like the first time these teams met, the opening set consisted of a lot of back-and-forth momentum. Down 7-5 early, WCU went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-7 lead. TAMIU answered back with a 5-0 run of their own to reclaim a 14-11 lead. After that, TAMIU did not trail the rest of the set and took a 25-22 victory.
Sets two and three were commanded by the Dustdevils as they earned the sweep with a 25-17 win in set two and a 25-15 win in set three.
Sierra Long led TAMIU with 10 kills with
Aryana Ledet and
Gabriella Gamboa recording eight and seven kills respectfully.
Samantha Estrada was clutch for TAMIU with five service aces.
Danea King recorded three blocks, and Estrada led the Dustdevils in digs, recording 14.
Match Two vs. CSU Pueblo
The Dustdevils faced a tough opponent in CSU Pueblo in their second match of the day.
CSU Pueblo came out strong, taking the first two sets by a score of 25-15 and 25-21.
The Dustdevils took set three after a 3-0 run out of a timeout to win the set 25-22.
The fourth set saw swings in momentum for both teams and continued to the 29
th point as CSU Pueblo took the match 3-1.
Three Dustdevils recorded double-digit kills with
Sierra Long,
Mia Molina and
Sierra Sanchez tallying a total of 35 kills.
Sanchez also recorded 20 digs, with Molina and
Samantha Estrada recording 15 and 10 digs respectfully.
