LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International mounted a furious second-half rally but came up just short, falling 84–82 to Cameron on Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
Cameron led by as many as 18 early in the second half, but the Dustdevils chipped away behind a hot stretch from Caylen Goff Brown and steady play at the foul line. Goff Brown buried a pull-up 3-pointer with 23 seconds left to tie it at 82, but Cameron answered on the next possession with the go-ahead jumper and TAMIU's final look missed before the horn.
Goff Brown paced Texas A&M International with 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including 3-for-11 from beyond the arc. Jamyier Patton added 15 points and six assists, while Gaius Mervin M'Ella finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. The Dustdevils shot 45.9 percent from the field and were nearly perfect at the line, going 23-for-24.
Cameron countered with four players in double figures. Jordan Mitchell led the Aggies with 21 points, while CJ Yao added 18 and Thomas Tangle finished with 13. Cameron shot 57.9 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from 3-point range.
Despite outscoring Cameron 49–37 after halftime, TAMIU couldn't fully erase its 14-point halftime deficit.
With the loss, Texas A&M International dropped to 5–9 overall and 2–4 in Lone Star Conference play, while Cameron improved to 5–9 and 2–3.
