Lumar’s Strong Showing Highlights TAMIU’s Road Match

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball fell to St. Edward's in straight sets, 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-16), Saturday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

The Dustdevils (7-11, 1-6 Lone Star Conference) were led offensively by Jaylah Lumar, who finished with eight kills on 13 attacks with just one error for a team-best .538 hitting percentage. Lumar also contributed four block assists to finish with a team-high 10 points.

St. Edward's established control early, hitting .500 in the opening set en route to a 25-8 victory.

TAMIU responded with its best offensive set of the afternoon in the second, recording 11 kills and hitting .176. The Dustdevils battled the Hilltoppers through two ties and two lead changes before St. Edward's pulled away for a 25-18 win.

The Hilltoppers closed the match with a 25-16 victory in the third set. St. Edward's finished the afternoon hitting .389 with 46 kills, while TAMIU recorded 26 kills and hit .098.

Behind Lumar, Mia Molina contributed five kills and seven digs. Giulia Gainelli turned in an efficient performance with three kills on five attacks for a .400 hitting percentage while adding six assists and a team-high eight digs. Deanna Montgomery led TAMIU with 10 assists.

At the net, Lumar's four block assists paced the Dustdevils, while Ece Ozdemir recorded one solo block and two block assists.

St. Edward's improved to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in Lone Star Conference play, while TAMIU moved to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in conference action.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT:
Jaylah Lumar led the Dustdevils with eight kills while hitting a team-best .538, committing just one attack error on 13 attempts. Lumar also made an impact defensively with four block assists and finished with a team-high 10 points.

Lumar is a junior outside and middle hitter for Texas A&M International University and is currently pursuing a degree in Nursing. A native of Spring, Texas, Jaylah is the daughter of Anastasia Brown and Onterio Lumar and was born on March 30, 2006.
