Dustdevils Late Game Comeback Falls Shorts Against UT Tyler

TYLER- Texas   The Dustdevils come back late into the ballgame with nine hits and nine runs in four straight innings but fall short losing to UT Tyler 15-11.  

From the fifth inning till the eighth both teams brought up at least six batters per inning with the Dustdevils bringing home nine off nine hits and the Patriots bringing home seven off three hits to extend their lead and secure the win.  

TAMIU (3-6,3-6) through nine innings, walked 14 batters and brought in six different pitchers to find control of the zone. The Patriots (8-1,8-1) brought in four pitchers walking five.  

In the fifth, Eddie Saenz and Asahi Nakano both hit RBI singles to cut the Patriot lead to 8-4. The Patriots responded in the bottom with two runs of their own off two Dustdevil throwing errors by pitcher Mark Chapa.  

In the sixth four Dustdevils made it home cutting the lead to two with Jacob Angell scoring from a walk bases-loaded, a sac-fly by Ciro Benavides scoring Jesus Sosa, and a two RBI single from Saul Soto scoring Issac Stanwick and Derek Ruiz

 The Patriots responded in the bottom half with four runs of their own with a Billy Winans walk scoring Ben Lea and a three rbi double by Connor Clark who went 3-for-5 on the night. 

One through seven in the Dustdevil lineup collected 13 hits, scoring eight of the teams' 11 runs. Saul Soto batting second went 3-for-6 on the night scoring a run and Jesus Sosa batting seventh, hit above .500 going 3-for-5 with all his hits coming late in the game including his RBI single in the eighth.  

The Dustdevils play the final game of the series against UT Tyler Monday before coming home to face Sul Ross State University over the weekend.  
 

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Jesus Sosa, junior shortstop, went 3-for-5 on the night and recorded three back-to-back hits in his final three at bats scoring the last run of the ball game cutting the Patriot lead to four.  This is his second three hit game of the season after recording three against UT Permian Basin in their last series. Sosa is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering.
