Spivey Word Season-High Five Made Three's In Road Battle Against DBU

DALLAS– Texas    Senior Spivey Word scores a season-high 20 points, the Dustdevils' drain 11 shots beyond the arc, but a tough Patriot defense forces a scoring drought in the final minutes leading to a loss, final score 86–64 inside Burg Center. 

TAMIU (8-19,5-14) trailed only by six heading into the second half 44-38 being led by six made threes compared to the Patriots two.  

Dallas Baptist University (23-6,17-2) defense in the second half forced 15 turnovers allowing 18 points to stay ahead. Dustdevils only forced 8 turnovers on the night compared to the Patriots 23.  

In the second half, Caylen Goff Brown and Spivey Word battled combining for 19 points with three made threes by Word.   

Despite the success from beyond the arc, the Dustdevils were out scored in the paint 52-to-18. 

The Patriots went on a 14-5 run in the final minutes to secure a lead the Dustdevils could not claw back from.
 
The Dustdevils found themselves one three pointer shy of tying their season high 12 made three's achieved on 11/24 vs. Angelo State. 

The Dustdevils play their final game of the season this weekend against UT Tyler.  
 

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Spivey Word, senior guard from San Bernardino, California, in his first start of the season scores a season-high 20 points with a season-high five made threes as well to lead all scorers against the Patriots. Word is currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology.
